Having a business card is SO VERY important – not just for those looking for a job. Don’t wait until you need connections to make connections. To make connections you need to make yourself easy and accessible. The following are annoying networking situations that happen to me often when I ask for a business card – don’t let these be you:
- The Scramble: When I ask for info/business card, the person scrambles to find a pen, paper and a flat surface to give me their info
- The Scribble: I sincerely would like to contact a person and give them business and I cannot read the contact info -so frustrating – good-bye contact
- The Vaporizing info: It is so much easier to store and keep a durable business card that fits nicely in my wallet than a random napkin that gets wet and disintegrates
- The Guess Who: Yes, they gave me contact info…but who am I emailing again? I met 30 people that night and cannot remember the name – good-bye contact
Don’t let this be you! Be professional and accessible! Usually, you are giving out a business card because you would like to be contacted – so take out all of the work.
Life is easier when you have connections.
