New Haven, Conn. – “Empowerment Through Creativity,” a free workshop presented by R. Phyllis Gelineau, professor of music at Southern Connecticut State University, will take place at SCSU on Sat., May 14, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event is aimed at business professionals in the middle and upper management levels, but professionals who are newer to their fields can benefit as well.

Participants will engage in hands-on activities that sharpen sensory awareness, stimulate imagination, improve concentration and develop divergent thinking. By exploring strategies for enhancing flexibility and deepening sensitivity, participants will learn how to promote strong team relationships, and experience new ways of creative problem solving.

Gelineau is a gifted educator and a successful author in music education. Having published four books on music and education, Gelineau says that creative activity can play a vital role in the problem-solving process by strengthening the right, or intuitive, side of the brain to aid in finding alternative solutions.

The workshop will take place in the SCSU Michael J. Adanti Student Center Ballroom, on the third floor. Lunch is included. Space is limited, so those interested in attending should call (203) 392-5250 or email johnsonb3@southernct.edu <mailto:johnsonb3@southernct.edu> by May 2 to reserve a space. Attendees are asked to dress comfortably. Directions to the SCSU campus may be found at www.southernct.edu/aboutscsu/map/ <http://www.southernct.edu/aboutscsu/map/>
